This building covers the spot onwhich stood the house of William l^radford, so manyyears the Pilgrim governor. Above this is the Con-gregational Church of the Pilgrimage, built in1840. standing, it is believed, very near the localityof the first meeting-house. Opposite is an old build-ing, now the Town House. This was built in 1749as a court house, the town contributing a part ofthe cost for the privilege of using it. When the newcourt house was built, in 1S20, this building waspurchased by the town. The entrance to it, for someyears after it was built, was from the east end by aJMoad fiight of steps.
