Cheetah laid in the grass

The Cheetah can be found chasing down their prey on the plains of Africa. There are also populations stretching to India. Reaching speeds of 70 mph, the Cheetah is the fastest animal on earth. Adult cheetahs can weigh as much as 140 pounds and their overall length can reach 60 inches without including the tail. The Cheetah is one of very few cats that cannot retract their claws into their paws. Cheetahs can reach speeds of up to 70 mph while chasing down their prey. In this fact they are unique to other large cats. Their coats are yellow with many small black spots. This gives them camouflage while hunting. The Cheetah is made for running; long and slender bodies, deep chests, small waists and long legs. Although the Cheetah is a member of the cat family certain characteristics of it are not typical of other family members. Most other cats are very stealthy by nature and use those skills when hunting. The cheetah however relies on its overwhealming speed to catch its prey.
