PROFESSOR JOHNSON DIED SUDDENLYStudents and citizens of Brunswick alike weregreatly shocked last Thursday morning whenthey were informed of the death of ProfessoiHenry Johnson 74. For several weeks he hadbeen sick at the Dudley Coe Memorial Infirmarywhere he was operated upon for appendicitis,Jan. 19th. For a few days following the opera-tion his condition was considered critical, but itwas thought that he would regain his health andbe able to resume his classes after the Easterrecess. Wednesday night, Professor Johnsonsuffered a sudden relapse and died about 6:30oclock the next morning. Henry Johnson was born at Gardiner, Maine,June 25, 1855, and fitted for college at Gardiner High School and Phillips Andover Academy. Hegraduated from Bowdoin in 1874 with Phi BetaKappa honors and then studied for three years inEurope, at Goettingen University and in 1877 he became the head of the Modern Lan-guage department at Bowdoin, a position whichhe held with the title
