The automatic switchwhich is used there is shown in the accompany-ing cut. The main circuit runs under the draw,from side to side, through a special cable,,which is joined to the overhead wires on each,side, this making the circuit complete. Besides;this an auxiliary cable is used for supplying thecurrent on the short stretch of overhead wire onithe draw which is independent of the Naumkeag Street Railway Co., Sprague System, Salem. Sprague motors of T]4-h. p., or an aggregate of15-h. p. to the car. In spite of this small powercapacity, which is only about half that used ona great many roads now being installed, it ap-pears that the cars have handled and carried theheaviest of loads with ease, and have evenhauled ordinary cars loaded to their fullestcapacity, in addition to their own loads, up thesteep grades upon this line. On the invitation of the Sprague Electric Rail-way and Motor company for an inspection of itselectric railway system, nearly 100 gentlemen,mainly connected with the street railway systemsof different New England cities, met in Bostonlast month. An informal lunch was served atthe Thorndike Cafe and the party started in thefour special cars which were in waiting, underthe charge of Mr. Edward Blake, of the Spraguecompany.
