Flesh is orange, thick and firm. Quality excellent. The seed cavity is very small. It is resistant to downy mildew. Estimated that under conditions of severe in- fection the leaves of Rio Gold will hold up 1 to 2 weeks longer than the commonly grown varie- ties. 90 days. When grown on good soil, this cantaloupe averages between 3 and 4 pounds and after tests from 12-13% soluble solids, indi- cating a high sugar content. The rind is ex- ceptionally hard, making it a better shipper than other commercial varieties. Vines are quite vigorous and quite resistant to alternaria and powery mildew and tolerant to downy mildew. 80 days.
