John Hermann JOl IN HERMANN, president of the 1 Inmann Safe Company, has for years hguredas one of the progressive, substantial businessmen of San Francisco. Born in Hermannsladt,Austria, in 185 7, he hnished the prescribedhigh school course, learned his trade, and left hisnative city in 1874. He spent several years inthe leading safe and vault factories of Europe,coming to the United States in 1 882 and visit-ing the big Eastern factories. He came to SanFiancisco in 1883, and in 1889 started hispresent business in an unpretentious way in asmall shop on Commercial street. Practicalk-o\vl:d~e, persistency, hard work and honestbusiness methods built up for him the largestsafe and vault factory on the Pacific Coast. Hermann safes and vaults are installed in the new postofftce, the United States custom house, theMint, the Appraisersbuilding, the Parrott Estate, Alaska Commercial ard many other buildings,besides many banks, not only in San Francisco but all over the state.
