Bartlett, Illinois, USA. A CN heritage locomotive leading a Canadian National Railway freight train on a cold winter day.
A CN heritage locomotive unit painted for the Elgin, Joliet & Eastern Railway leading a Canadian National Railway freight train northbound through Illinois on its journey from Memphis, Tennessee to Prince Rupert, British Columbia. Heritage units are outfitted with special paint honoring former railroads that usually predated the parent railway who acquired them. In this case Canadian National acquired the EJ&E in 2013 and now honors that railroad with select locomotives in the former line's distinctive orange paint. Two items of note in this image are the locomotive is actually running on its former 'home' tracks and the special banner at the front of the locomotive also honors the 25th anniversary of the former government owned Canadian National Railway becoming a public entity. The single-track mainline in view was trackage owned by the EJ&E that now supports a significant volume of rail freight traffic between US communities and Canada.
