Clashes occur between Palestinian protesters and Israeli troops in the Abu Safiya area, on the east of Gaza City, during the 48th week of the Great March of Return protests. A 15-year-old boy, Yousef Said al-Daya, was shot in the chest during the protest, and succumbed to his wounds one hour later, while dozens of protesters were also injured by the Israeli army's tear gas and live fire. Thousands of demonstrators have gathered at several points near the fence separating Israel from Gaza this Friday with some burning tyres and throwing stones towards the separation barrier. Over 250 Palestinians have been killed and another 26,000 injured by Israeli forces in Gaza since the border protests started on March 30th. Demonstrators have been calling for the lifting of Israel's blockade on the Gaza Strip and the right to return for refugees whose families were displaced during the creation of the state of Israel in 1948. Since June 2007, the Gaza Strip has been under a crippling blockade imposed by Israel and also upheld by Egypt, who has restricted the Palestinians' movement in and out of Gaza through the Rafah Border Crossing
