They bloom from early summer until frost in all sections of the country, succeeding in any sunny position in any kind of soil, but responding quickly to liberal treatment. For best results the beds should be spaded about two feet deep, and a generous amount of well-decayed manure of any kind thoroughly incorporated, and at all times freely watered. They are most efifective when planted in masses of one variety, setting out the plants about two feet apart. To find the number of plants required for any bed from 3 to 20 feet in diameter, see tables on page 119. They are also very effective when planted in borders, where their long flowering season insures a constant display of color. All varieties have green foliage unless otherwise Large-Flowering Canna, The President (Offered on page 159) Carmine Beauty. Bright deep carmine flowers produced freely in large trusses well above the heavy dark green foliage. The intense coloring and freedom of flowering make it remarkably attractive. 4 ft. Dazzler. Masses of fire-red flowers heightened by an orange suffusion completely cover the dark green foliage of this splendid and most effective variety. 3} ft. Favorite. The best yellow dotted with red. The yellow is intense and the dots not too pronounced add to its beauty with- out detracting from the golden mass. The intensity of its coloring has caused it deservedly to be called the "Yellowest ; 4J ft. Harmony. Great clusters of good sized, well formed. Geranium- red flowers are arranged on good stems in such a manner as to give the trusses an almost globular appearance; carmine bronze foliage makes a harmonious combin
