In the latter year he cameto Mills county, where he died on tiie iilhof March, 1897, at the age of eighty-oneyears. With one exception W. C. DeLashmuttis the eldest of the family of nine children,eight of whom are now living. He startedout in life upon his own account in 1864,going to Montana, where he remained foralmost a year, buying and selling cattle. In 1868 he wasunited in marriage to Miss Sarah E. Gilli-land, wlio died in Septemher, 1885. at the ageof thirty-five years. By this marriage therewere five children, of whom four are Hving,viz.: Lulu Ai., now Mrs. C. E. Dean, livingin Glen wood, Iowa; Jessie L., now the wifeof Clarence Stone; William Lynn; and Er-nest \V. Ola is the name of the one who isdeceaseil. in January, 1892, ]\Ir. De Lash-mutt was united in marriage with Mrs. Nan-nie B. Lless, who had had one daughter byher former marriage, namely, Mildred, nowAirs. W. M. Estes. Since his marriage Mr. De Lashmutt hascarried on farming and stock-raising inAlills county, with the exception of theperiods of his service in public office.
