Her generosity is unlimited—she is always ready to help anyone. Early every morning Ellen travels from the Bronx on the subways, that never-failingcraft which enables her to reach college, talk to her friends, do various odds and ends,and arrive at some class on time—exposing, however, two sad failings of the rest of us, aninsatiable desire for sleep in the morning and a habit of taking a last chance.
