Non-invasive garden plants. Illustration of a gardener cultivating the non-invasive flowering plants star jasmine (Trachelospermum jasminoides, white) and pink muhly (Muhlbergia, pink, an ornamental grass). Because these plants have not spread outside the garden, the natural ecosystem (seen in the background) provides a habitat for birds and other wildlife. The non-invasive plants support the biodiversity of the local ecosystem, rather than threatening it. These plants are used in California, USA, where they are an alternative to ecologically damaging plants such as periwinkle and pampas grass (see images C028/6527 and C028/6529).
