The greater part of the next seven months he spent in threedifferent hospitals with pleuro-pneumonia and mastoiditis. InOct., 1918, being discharged as physically fit he resumed flyingduties. At London Colney, Herts, Eng., he learned to fly SE 5.(combat) machines, and was on duty at that station as a scoutpilot when the Armistice was signed. Lieut. Trainer was honorablydischarged on Dec. 28, 1918, at Garden City, [ 342 ]. CHARLES LAKEMAN WARD Second Lieutenant, , , Student OfficerLove Field, Dallas, Texas Son of Charles W. and Mabel (Brace) Ward; was born in Brook-line, Mass., Dec. 3, 1895. He was educated at the Browne andNichols School, Cambridge, at Brookline High School, and atHarvard College, 1917. He was on his class football and soccerteams; and played on the Love Field football team, while in Service. He attended the Officers Training Camp at Plattsburg in 1916,and trained with Harvard in 1917. He enlisted at Bostonin April, 1917, and attended the 1st Officers Training Camp atPlattsburg from May to Aug., 1917. He was appointed to the 301stMass. Infantry with the commission of 2d Lieut, on Aug. 15, 1917;and trained at Camp Devens, Mass., until March, 1918. He wasstationed at Aviation Ground School, Austin, Tex., from Marchto May, 1918, detached from Service for instruction as a pilot. Heattended Princeton
