The 400th Anniversary Portrait of William Shakespeare by Geoff Tristram, in association with Stratford-upon-Avon's Council.

This large-scale oil painting of William Shakespeare by Geoff Tristram was commissioned by Stratford-upon-Avon's Town and District Councils to commemorate the 400th anniversary of the death of the greatest playwright the world has ever known. The portrait was featured in the Daily Telegraph, The Mail online, Stratford's local newspapers and the BBC. The facial features were based on the famous Droeshout etching – the only representation that was approved by Shakespeare's friend, Ben Jonson; The Telegraph even posed the question: could this be the most accurate portrait of the Bard ever created? The painting echoes the Droeshout etching but has transformed Shakespeare into more of a photographically realistic version. Geoff Tristram has given the world a fresh, updated image of the Bard that rings true.
