The hind limbs have been lost, their onlyvestiges being two little bones that represent the pelvis, orhip bone: the front limbs have been changed into rigidpaddles, fit only for balancing or steering; locomotion iseffected by what is really the tip of the tail, which has beendeveloped into flukes for swimming. Note that unlike thetail of fishes the flukes of-whales and porpoises contain nobones.
