He then returnedto Chicago, where he resumed the practice of his profes-sion, and was Justice of the Peace in that city 1876 he removed to Grand Rapids, Mich., where hewas engaged in the practice of law until the autumn of1881, when becoming interested in the iron mines of LakeSuperior, he removed to Negaunee, Mich., where he livedduring the years 1882 and 1883, until in November of thelatter year, he removed to Denver, Colo., where he re-sumed the practice of his profession, and in September,1891, was appointed by the United States Circuit Courtfor the District of Colorado, U. S. Circuit Court Commis-sioner for the District of Colorado, and when, by Act of. HON. SANFORD C. HINSDALENo. 637 HINSDALE GENEALOGY 253 Congress of May 28, 1896, that office was made to expireon June 30, 1897, he was immediately re-appointed U. under the new Act, which position he nowholds. He is also, by appointment of said U. S. CircuitCourt, Master and Examiner of that Court. He has hadno children. To the initiative taken by Mr. Hinsdale is due the com-pilation of this genealogy, and thanks should be extendedto him by all descendants of Robert Hinsdale. Withthat modesty for which he is noted among all his ac-quaintances, he says: The work was suggested to, andurged upon me by Mrs. Mary E. Truax of Crawfordsville,Ind.
