Yeast cells, coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM). This fungus consists of clusters of single vegetative cells, with daughter cells here budding off from some of the larger mother cells. Yeast ferments sugar, producing alcohol and carbon dioxide in the process. It is used in the production of beer, wine and bread.
