England: Queen Elizabeth I (7 September 1533 - 24 March 1603). The 'Hardwick Hall' portrait from the studio of Nicholas Hilliard (c. 1547-1619), c. 1599. Elizabeth I of the House of Tudor was Queen of England and Ireland from 17 November 1558 until her death in 1603. The only surviving child of Henry VIII and his second wife, Anne Boleyn, she was initially declared illegitimate due to Anne's execution and her marriage annulment; Henry later restored her to the line of succession however. She was temporarily imprisoned during her half-sister Mary's reign, but became queen after Mary's death.
