Congressman Scott Peters, left, from California’s 52nd congressional district, talks with Doug Jones, an environmental physiologist at the Naval Health Research Center (NHRC) about the command’s human performance research and research capabilities. One tool in NHRC’s Warfighter Performance Lab that supports research efforts is the swim flume, a pool that can simulate currents with a range of 0-6 knots and has the capability of measuring oxygen consumption, relative work load, and energy expenditure while subjects swim against the current or dive for extended durations.
