Attack on the royal carriage of George III, 29 October 1795


Illustration by Henry Marriott Paget (1857-1936) from a history of England published in 1906. An incident as the King was being driven to open parliament on 29 October 1795. His coach was attacked by a mob shouting Down with Pitt, No War, Give us bread, No famine and No George. Against the backdrop of unpopularity of war with France, the costly expedition to St. Domingue and the government of William Pitt the Younger.
