On nearing the top our younger brotherErnest, who had come on from Pittsburg to look afterour business, came running down the trail to greet member of a troupe of moving-picture actors, incowboy garb, remarked that we didnt look like moving- 218 THROUGH THE GRAND CANYON FROM WYOMING TO MEXICO picture explorers; then little Edith emerged from ourstudio just below the head of Bright Angel Trail andcame skipping down toward us, but stopped suddenlywhen near us, and said smilingly: Is that my Daddy with all those whiskers ? ££. My brother, who meanwhile had takenhis family to Los Angeles, sent very encouraging reportsregarding some of the films. Among the Canyon visitors who came down to inspectthe results of our trip were Thomas Moran, the famousartist, with his daughter, Miss Ruth, whose interest wasmore than casual. Thomas Morans name, more than anyother, with the possible exception of Major Powells, isto be associated with the Grand Canyon. It was hispainting which hangs in the capital at Washington thatfirst acquainted the American public with the wondersof the Canyon. This painting was the result of a journeyhe made with Major
