The ascogonium divides into numerous binucleate cells, however, each of which may develop ascogenous hyphae (Fig. 113, 3). Thus P. vermiculatum differs from P. crustaceum in two respects. Both copulation branches are differentiated morphologically as well as dynamically into antheridium and ascogonium; secondly, the appearance of the antheridium is retarded. It appears a long time after the formation of the ascogonium, when the latter has already become multinucleate,.
