As a result of this, direction of current flowin the rails on Columbia and East Main and East HighStreets between Sycamore and Limestone Streets is ac-tually away from the power house. This tends to producethe lowest potential up in the heart of the city andcauses a complete loss of the conductivity of the double-track lines on these streets, which could be utilized if thefeeder system were so proportioned as to cause a con-siderable amount of current to flow eastward on thosestreets and be taken off in the region of SycamoreStreet. A redesign of the cables so as to take less current fromthe territory surrounding Limestone Street and agreater proportion from feeders draining the region to. Thus, if the drop along Columbia betweenLagonda and Limestone should be 10 volts and the dropon East Main Street over the same distance should be,say, 5 volts, then the potential drops between the tracksat Lagonda would be 5 volts. Since the distance here isvery short, this would give rise to a very high potentialgradient between the two lines, which would be sufficientto cause dangerous leakage of current into the earth and, consequently, serious damage to the pipes. In order toovercome this difficulty a heavy copper cable should con-nect the two lines on High and Main Streets to serve asan equalizer and prevent any large differences of pote
