Portuguese poet best known for antonomásia "Camões Small", was born on November 30, 1773, in Mills Street in Machico. Working since he was nine years in the trade in Funchal, began in the literary career, becoming known for his poetic compositions. Sick, poor and seeing his work constantly rejected by editors and critics, Francisco Álvarez de Nobrega, now in his friend José Manuel Pinto Moreira Baptista, commits suicide by ingesting an overdose of laudanum. Much of his work was simply destroyed by the Inquisition, with its sparse poems that have persisted to the present day.
