Wood boring beetle larva emerging from a hole in wood, coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM). Many beetle species feed on wood and are commonly refered to as 'woodworm'. The larvae of some species, such as the common furniture beetle (Anobium punctatum) can cause large scale structural damage to timber in buildings. Adult furniture beetles do not feed. Magnification x30 when printed 10cm wide.
