The die head is held in the turret of any ordinary screw ma-chine, and trips oft by retarding the forward motion of thecarriage. It is also made without the tripping device for specialrequirements. The tripping arrangement is such that when thedesired length of thread is cut, the die head will trip andrevolve with the work until the machine has time to dies are made from high speed steel and can be groundand re-ground many times, thus giving a life much greater thana solid die, besides never requiring to be annealed, bobbed orretempered, and they are readily adjustable to take up wear inaddition to the adjustment for different A NEW DIE HEAD. One set of chasers can readily be set above or below theirrated diameter. For instance, J/o inch (13 thread) can be set tocut I in. diameter when desired, or they can also be set to cutyi in. diameter. The angle in the thread, however, will not bequite ideal, but all that is required for ordinary screw machinework. With other types of die heads a special set of chasers isrequired every time it is desired to cut other than standardpitches. With this head any diameter within the range of thehead can be cut with one set of dies so long as the pitch is thesame. In very special cases where absolutely correct pitch isrequired, it would be advisable to use special holders so as toset the chasers on the exact angle to correspond with the angleof the thread, but ordinarily this is not required. Chasers can atall times be ground to suit the material to be cut; any amountof rake can be given that is necessary, thereby insuring the bestpo
