Gully formations on Mars. Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter image of gullies on the side of Gasa Crater in the Southern mid-latitudes of Mars. Gullies are narrow channels formed by the downward flow of sediment deposits on steep slopes. The absence of impacts suggests the gullies were formed relatively recently and indicate that water was present on Mars. Image obtained by the High Resolution Imaging Science Experiment (HiRISE) camera on 23rd December 2010.
