Craigellachie Bridge - plaque commemorating Thomas Telford. A 46m or 150ft single span cast iron bridge designed and built 1812-1814 by Thomas Telford (Civil Engineer) and William Hazledine (Iron Founder). It is the oldest surviving cast iron arch bridge in Scotland and an International Historical Civil Engineering Landmark. Ironwork cast at Plas Kynaston in Wales and transported to Speymouth through the Ellesmere Canal, Pontcysllte Aqueduct and by sea. Transported from Speymouth to Craigellachie on wagons. At each end of the bridge are two 15m tall mock medievil towers looking very like the castles on a chess board.
