On top of the post is a fire plate with a luminous fire. Immediately before launch, the fire is lit with a flint lock mounted against the wall in a brass protective cap, with a trigger rope passing through the wall over a pair of discs. The cover of the fire plate, which protects it against moisture, is attached to the wall and remains behind after launch. An extendable iron rod with a round plate is fitted in the lower end of the post, which extends as soon as the device is released.
