Burscough, Lancashire. 8th Nov 2018. UK Weather: Dawn illuminates the vast heaps of rejected carrots and potatoes which do not meet the criteria for supermarket vegetables. The dry summer, and lack of rain has resulted in a harvest of undersize produce and a larger than average proportion of waste discarded foods. After the driest combined June and July periods on record, most growers are reporting that crop yields are down leading to issues about quality. These rejected veg will be collected & used as cattle feed.
