In this image, taken in April 1918, we can see the dope and varnish room at the Dayton Wright Airplane Co. in Dayton, Ohio. This room is where the cloth-covered surfaces of the airplane are treated with a solution and the War Department insignia is painted on. The wings and other units are made ready for final assembly onto the airplane. This specific plant is referred to as Plant No. 1.
