Norham Castle which stands guard over one of the main crossing points on the lower Tweed. A motte and bailey castle built in 1121 and the principle stronghold of the Bishops of Durham in the Scottish Borders, Norham remained part of Durham until 1844 when North Durham was absorbed into Northumberland. Once the most dangerous place in all of England. It was taken and badly damaged prior to the Battle of Flodden in 1514.
