Upper surface of body and wings black. The fore wings have two rows of yellow spots parallel with the outer margin, eight spots in each row, more prominent in the male than in the female. There are one or two spots before the inner row towards the apex,»and in the male a bar at the end of the discal cell. The fringe is black, cut with yellow opposite the spots of the two rows. The spots are continued across the hind wings, the outer row being lunate, with a more or less complete row of blue 8*.
