Sgraffito decoration, added at the end of the 1500s to the West front of the medieval Chiesa di Santa Maria Primerana, on Piazza Mino da Fiesole, the main square in Fiesole, a town above Florence, Tuscany, Italy.
Fiesole, Tuscany, Italy: sgraffito decoration beside the West or front doorway to the Chiesa di Santa Maria Primerana, on Piazza Mino da Fiesole. The church, built on top of a Roman temple, dates from 966 AD. It was enlarged in the Middle Ages with the addition of a Gothic chancel and a new facade was added at the end of the 1500s, with sgraffito decorations by Ludovico Buto. These decorations were restored in 2016. The West doorway, under an Ionic portico, was added in 1801.
