As soon as children are capable of imitatingsounds, they should be taught the elements of vocallanguage; and, to facilitate their acquisition of thisknowledge, they should be made to exercise before amirror, so as to compare the movements of their ownlips with those of the lips of their instructor. By pur-suing this course, a good foundation will be laid for aperfect and graceful articulation. In that part of this work which consists of Exercisesin Reading and Declamation, all, or nearly all, theletters representing sounds liable to be omitted, or im-perfectly articulate
