Houses in Pullman's historic district, here with original wooden staircases but differently renovated entrance doors. Today, people of different ages, ethnicities and professions live in the town, which was designed by George Pullman in 1880 and once included a factory site. Many residents are involved in the restoration of their own homes and in projects throughout the neighborhood. Chicago, Illinois, United States
