Ernst von Dechen (1800-1899). 1889 engraving of the German geologist Ernst Heinrich Carl von Dechen was a professor of mining engineering and director of the Prussian mining department. He wrote numerous papers on geology and mining with his most renowned being a geological map of Rhenish Prussia and Westphalia.
