Wellington; Williain Arthur, 18^8; GeorgeWells. 1844. (VIII) William A. Kilbourn. seventh child ofJeremiah Kilbourn (7), was born in Groton, Massa-chusetts,- July 16, 18,38. He was educated there inthe common schools, at Lawrence .Academy at Gro-ton; Philips .\cademy at Exeter, New Hampshire,where he fitted for college, and at Harvard L^njver-sity where he was graduated in the class of the-fifteen years following he was engaged ineducational work. He taught school at Framing-ham .Academy five years and in the Lancaster .-Vcad-. WORCESTER COUNTY 213 emy. In 1S73 he accepted the position of managerof the country place and farm at Lancaster ofNathaniel Thayer and he has filled that responsibleposition with eminent success ever since. He iswell known among the agriculturists and horticul-turists of .the state. He is an expert in his line andthe farms of which he has charge are famousthroughout the country for their fruits, vegetablesand stock, their cattle and horses. Mr. Kilbournwas for many years secretary of the WorcesterEast .Vgricultural Society, and a member of theState Board of Agriculture of Massachusetts forsixteen years. He is past master of LancasterGrange, and Worcester East Pomona Grange, Pa-trons of Husbandry, and he has accomplished muchto better the lot of the Massachusetts farmer andto make farming more attractive and profitable.
