It was afterwards converted to the pur-poses of a farm-house. There was formerly a bridge over thestream at this place, as early as the reign of Edward II. TheStour, when the survey of Domesday was taken, presented astream of much greater magnitude than it has displayed for along succession of years; for it appears that, although therewere only twenty-eight acres of meadow land, there were thenten mills and seven fisheries. On the opposite side of the village eastward, on the Margateroad, the hill rises northward, over which the route conducts toHeme, over a barren soil.
