Illustration of the InSight (Interior Exploration using Seismic Investigations, Geodesy and Heat Transport) spacecraft entering Mars' atmosphere. It is seen on the correct trajectory for its landing site, the plains of the Elysium Planitia. Encapsulated in the protective aeroshell is InSight's robotic lander, which is designed to studying the interior of Mars. It will investigate the processes that formed and shaped Mars and its findings will improve our understanding of the evolution of the inner solar system's rocky planets. InSight was launched on 5 May 2018. It is scheduled to reach Mars on 26th November 2018.
