The acme magazine . partition, so that when the furnace isinstalled the whole cellar is made toowarm from the heat of the pipes. It isnecessary that a person should decidewhen selecting a plan about the meansof heating. The cellar may be built inparts just as cheaply as in any other wayif the arrangement is properly made inthe beginning, but it is hard to makethese changes after the house is Built. There is but one chimney in this house, but it is built with three flues, one forthe furnace, one for the kitchen rangeand the other for the parlor grate. Theparlor grate flue runs down as well asup. The lower part is made into an ashpit closed tight with an iron door sothat the ashes drop to the bottom of theflue and may be taken out once or twicea year. This is an easy way of keepingthe grate in order that every house-keep-er appreciates. Of course it must bemade right. There must be no draftthrough it to scatter the ashes out overthe room, but it is just as easy to makeit right as it is to make it wrong. Too. many grates are closed up the year roundbecause they are dirty. The soot fromthe chimney gets down into the room andthe draft from underneath scatters theashes about, but this sort of thing iscaused by mismanagement. A grateproperly constructed and rightly man-aged is cleaner than a stove. GOLDEN DREAM MARCH. W.
