The facade of one of the Guild Halls in the Grand Place, Brussels. Originally the city's central market place, the Grand-Place is now a UNESCO World Heritage site. Ornate buildings line the square, including guildhalls, the Brussels Town Hall, and the Breadhouse, and seven cobbelstone streets feed into it. The Maison des Ducs de Brabant (pictured)—so called because of the aristocratic sculptures adorning its frontage—houses seven of the Grand Place’s guildhalls, among them the headquarters of the old millers, tanners, carpenters, stonemasons, and woodworkers.
