On Geramium ruhritm at Rock Ferry, and on Glcido- stephus spongiosus on North shore (M).Pleojiospormm borreri, borreri, Harvey. Common on the South shore, and at Hilbre 1. and New Brighton (M). Puffin I. (G).Griffithsia barbata, Ag. New Brighton (M).G. setacea, Ag. Isle of Man and Puffin and Hilbre Is., at low water (M and G). 8 LIVEEPOOL BIOLOGICAL SOCIETY. G. corallina, Ag. Isle of Man (M); locality not recorded (L).G. equisetifolia, Ag. In drift on Lancashire and Cheshire coasts (M).Ptilota elegans, sericea, Harvey. Common (M); abundant at Puffin I. (G).P. plumosa, Ag. Locality not recorded (M and L); Puffin I. (G).Ceramiuin tenuissimum, J. nodosum, Harvey. Hilbre I. (M) ; Puffin I. (G).C. fastigiatum, Harv. Hilbre I. (M).G. deslongcliampii, Chauv. Hilbre I., New Brighton (M). Very abundant on Puffin L, parasitic on many species of Algae (M and G). The figure shows a branch of G. deslongcliampii. with twigs transformed into clasping organs. Inthis case the supporting plant was a stout filamentof Porphyra laciniata, but I have found it withsimilar attachments to Chylocladia articidata, Gera-mium ruhrum, and other species. In some specimens MARINE ALG^ OF THE DISTRICT. 9 I fancied I detected an intercommunication of proto-plasm between cells of the host and those of the parasite, but I have not as yet succeeded in obtaining a specimen which show^s this in such a manner as to leave no doubt as to the actual union of protoplasmic strictum, Grev. et Harv. Common at Puffin I. (G).C. diaphanum, Koth. New Brighton and Hilbre I., parasitic or on rocks (M).C. rithric7n, Ag. Very common at Hilbre I. and very variable, often parasitic (M). Extremely abundant at Puffin I. (M and G) ; locality not recorded (L).C. ruhrum, Ag., var. decurrens, Harvey. Not uncommon at New Brighton and Hilbre I
