Monarch butterfly, Danaus plexippus. Newly emerged or enclosed from a chrysalis hand raised indoors inside a butterfly cage. Kansas, USA. This butterfly took a hard fall to the bottom of the cage when it emerged. It lost critical fluid used to fully pump into its wings. In spite of my best care and anguish, it eventually died, only able to flutter, but not fly.
