LOCAL FLORISTS TAKE ALL THE FmST PRIZES AT THE STATE FAIR.—WITH THE CRAFTSMEN AT LINCOLN. — VARIOUS TRADE NOTES. The State Horticultural Society held its annual fair at Lincoln September 1 to 6. The florists of the state made a very creditable display, both in plants and cut flowers. Chapin Bros., of Lincoln, P. Floth and L. Henderson, of Omaha, made a display of general greenhouse plants and J. W. Hesser, of Plattsmouth, showed his palms and ferns. Hess & Swoboda, of Omaha, made an elaborate display of floral designs and cut flowers and had the honor of carrying away all the first premiums. For the last ten days we have had cold, rainy weather and constquently stock is very scarce. The thermometer has been as low as 27°. Outdoor flowers are almost gone. Carnations are still scarce and roses are small. Business is very brisk, for Omaha is lively at present. At Lincoln, Chapin Brothers have built five new houses and are well stocked up for winter. Fn-y & Frey have moved to a larger store and report good business. C. H Frey is going into the fruit business and has bought lorty acres of land for that purpose. Paul Floth has rebuilt his two old houses and added two new ones to his plant. B. Haas has left the city parks and is now superintendent of Krugs Park. Grippe. Rhinebeck, N. Y. Rhinebeck bids fair to maintain her leadership as a violet growing center during the coming season. June planting is the prevailing practice with the grow- ers here and the plants generally are in excellent and promising condition, there being no disease among them worth talk- ing about. Tremper, both Rockefellers, Berger, Odell, Bishop, Sheake andTraver are all in fine shape, with prospects of flowers of as good quality as they have ever produced. Small blooms are begin- ning to appear, but it will be two or three weeks before any will be fit for mar- ket
