In this short article it is neither desirable norpossible to deal with the great variety ofmaterials which has been pressed into theservice. Nor can the problem of keeping shipsbottoms free from corrosion and fouling beconsidered settled ; at the same time, however,good-quality compositions have achieved much, and shipowners can feel that under normaltrading their vessels bottoms will bekept in a reasonably good condition for periodsof from nine to twelve Fig. annexed photographs show more experi-mental plates and demonstrate how cautious onemust be in predicting the effect of materialswhen in the form of compositions.
