This will usually stop most fall and winter fires coming away from the railroad. Early in the spring on dry calm days the section men going along the path previously made and with tools and water and ample labor at hand, (eight to ten men usually), start a back fire and allow it to burn over the space between the path and the rail- road. Only the dry leaves and ground are to be burned.
