The town, standing 165 feet above sea-level,near the right bank of theDon, has a station on theGreat North of Scotlandrailway, at the junctionof the branch to Alford,from which place it is 16miles distant, 3 SSE ofInverurie, and 13J NWof Aberdeen. It ranksas a royal burgh undercharter of William theLyon, but in size is nomore than a mere vil-lage, consisting of onewell-built street, withseveral smaller ones. Atit are a post office, withmoney order, savingsbank, and telegraphdepartments, a branchof the North of Scot-land bank, a NationalSecurity savings bank(1837), 2 hotels, a plaintown-hall (dating from 1740), a parish church (1819),and a Free church. The town-hall belongs to LordKintore, who under a decree of the Court of Session is. Seal of Kintore. KINTYRE bound to give the council a room for their meetings andto pay the municipal expenses of the burgh. The townhas given the title of Earl in the peerage of Scotlandsince 1677, and of Baron in the peerage of the UnitedKingdom since 1838, to the family of Keith-Falconer,whose seats are Keithhall in Aberdeenshire and In-glismaldie in Kincardineshire. The burgh is governedby a provost, 2 bailies, and 6 commissioners; and itunites with Elgin, Inverurie, Peterhead, Banff, andCullen in sending a member to parliament. The parlia-mentary constituency numbered 121 in 1895, when theannual value of real property amounted to £2777. Pop.(1881) 661, (1891) 686. The parish, containing also the Port Elphinstonesuburb of Inverurie burgh, comprises the ancient parishof Kintore and part of that of Kinkell. It is boundedN by Inverurie, E by Keithhall and Fintray, SE byKinnell
