St. Pauls School is the direct result of a move-ment to establish in Beaufort a school that wouldafford the youth of the town and county an ade-quate opportunity for a broad school training—ofhand and heart, as well as of head—that wouldenable them to realize the larger opportunities oflife and to render more efficiant service in thehome and in the State. About a half-century ago the Rev. D. V. VanAntwerp came to Beaufort and began his effortsto reestablish a parish where old St. Johns parishhad flourished in colonial days. In connection withthis work he saw the need of a good school andforthwith gave of his energy freely to establishsuch a school. This was the beginning of Parish and St. Pauls School, and thepresent St. Pauls is but a restoration of the lov-ing work of Mr. Van Antwerp, Mrs. James , Miss Elizabeth Robinson and others.
