Smailholm Tower built in the Middle of the Fifteenth Century home to the Pringles for 200 years The Scotts came into poccession of Smailholm in 1645 and it was here that Sir Walter Scott came as a sickly child in 1773 to recuperate at the home of his Grandfather in the farmhouse built a few hundred yards from the Tower after it was abondoned
